Universal provides dedicated transportation services in conjunction with our warehouse operations or independently. We employ our company-owned and operated fleet of 800 tractors, over 1,500 dry van trailers, and 150 drop-deck trailers. This dedicated fleet is employed primarily in support of our Logistics Value-added Services — round trip shuttles to and from our cross-dock operations and also inbound to the manufacturing line side.
These also operate in short run closed-loops between facilities and within a local, defined geographic area — inbound pick-up runs from suppliers or delivery runs to customers.
We conveniently and safely collect or distribute your material. We also provide route analysis and design to optimize the performance of this service.
Switching & Yard Management
We also provide dedicated switching services for medium- to large-velocity locations anywhere in the United States. Efficient switching operations reduce overall facility cost by maximizing velocity, and optimizing yard space and door usage while minimizing labor.
Our Yard Management System allows customization of your yard management program to your specific needs. We inventory, control, and document trailers or containers. We optimize yard activity, maximize safety, and provide accurate on-site inventory.
